Description
An external drive is not seen when using to a third-party USB Hub, PCI or PC card.
The main issues are:
- BIOS or driver for the hub or card may be out of date.
- Not able to provide enough power.
- Too many devices plugged into the hub.
- Devices causing conflicts.
- Computer may have problems working with more than one USB device at time.
- USB hub or card may be bad and need to be replaced.
- USB hub or card transfer rate may be slower than the external drive.
- The USB hub may require it's own power supply.

My Passport for Mac comes with a USB Micro-B to USB Type-A cable.
It includes a USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter..

Computer USB Port
Plug the drive directly to the computer USB port.
Try another port.
USB Hub or Card
Try another USB hub or card that can support the data transfer rate of the drive.
USB Hub
Use a USB Hub that has it's own power adapter.
Remove all other from the Hub.
Safe Eject
Safe eject the drive from Windows or macOS.

BIOS Updates
Update the system BIOS of the computer or motherboard.
The hub or card may need an update.
There may also be driver updates on the website of the manufacturer that need to be installed.
